John Berger 'Ways of Seeing'

This week Radio 4 has a retrospective series entitled Viewfinders: Ways of Seeing at 50. BBC Radio 4 "has asked five writers on looking at art, to mark the 50th anniversary of Ways of Seeing - the 1972 TV series presented by John Berger, which was turned into a bestselling book".

These are currently being broadcast but you can catch up with those that appeared earlier in the week. The link to the relevant BBC page is here.

I am thrilled to hear that it is also possible to view the original BBC programmes. They are available on Youtube and the link to the first is here.

I would like to thank Paul Lickiss for alerting us to these programmes. I am also indebted to him for the photos of his copies. He adds, the "book is unusual in many ways, chapter 1 starts on the front cover and the rear of the book is more highly illustrated than the front. There are lots of translations that use the Pelican format cover. I attach an exception the Chinese version of 2010 published by Rye Field Publications".
